The Catalog Visibility Report · 12 categories

An AI agent can filter just 6% of the average Shopify catalog.

The short version

The average Shopify catalog is only half legible to an AI shopping agent — it reads 51% of a product's demand attributes from the listing text but can filter just 6%. So agents recommend the products they can read, not the ones that best fit the shopper.

About the research

What is the Catalog Visibility Score?+

It is the share of a product's demand attributes that are stated where an AI shopping agent can read them, averaged across a catalog. It measures how legible a catalog is to an agent, not sales or revenue. The average Shopify catalog scores 51 out of 100.

How was the research done?+

Every product was read the way an AI shopping agent reads it, through Shopify's public catalog, capturing the specifications, features, options and price the agent receives. For each attribute we recorded whether it is filterable, merely findable in text, or missing. Live shopper queries were then put through the same agent surface and scored against what was asked. No generative model was used in the measurement.
